Hosts Editor

Privacy Policy

Effective: August 5, 2026 · Last updated: August 28, 2026

In one line — Hosts Editor collects, stores and transmits no personal information. Your edits, backups, save history, project templates and settings stay on your Mac, and no data ever leaves your machine.

Hosts Editor ("the App") is a desktop application for safely editing the macOS system hosts file. The developer, choiheesik ("the Developer"), takes your privacy seriously, and this policy explains exactly how the App handles your information.

1.Personal information collected

The App collects no personal information. It does not collect or request your name, email address, account details, location, device identifiers, or anything else that could identify you. There is no sign-up and no login.

2.Usage data and analytics

The App does not collect or transmit usage records, statistics, analytics, diagnostics, or crash reports. It contains no advertising or tracking technology and no third-party analytics SDK.

3.Handling of the file you edit

The App lets you edit the hosts file you select and its contents. For that, the following is guaranteed:

4.Information stored on your device

To provide its features, the App stores the following only on your Mac, inside its own application data folder. None of it is sent to the Developer or any third party, and it is removed when you delete the App.

5.File access and folder scanning

The App uses only the file access you grant yourself in a file dialog in order to edit the hosts file. That access is used solely to edit the file you designated, locally; it is not used for any other purpose and is not shared with anyone.

In addition, when — and only when — you select a project folder yourself, the App reads configuration files in it (such as .env and dev server config files) to propose host names. In that case:

6.Exporting and importing templates

You can export your project templates to a file and import a file you received. Both are local file operations at the location you pick in a file dialog; no server of the Developer's and no external service is involved. Who you share such a file with, and how, is entirely your decision.

7.Notifications

When a global shortcut turns a project on or off, the App can report the result as a macOS notification. These are local notifications generated on your Mac: no push server is used, and no device identifier or user information is transmitted. You can revoke notification permission at any time in macOS System Settings.

8.Sharing with third parties

Because the App collects no personal information, there is no personal information to provide, sell, or share with any third party.

9.Network communication

Every feature of the App — editing, validation, backups, save history, project templates, folder scanning, export and import, themes — works offline. The App makes no network requests and transmits no user data to any server.

10.Children's privacy

Because the App collects no personal information, it collects none from any user, including children.

11.Changes to this policy

This policy may be revised as the law or the App's features change. Significant changes will be announced on this page, and a revised policy takes effect when it is posted here.
